Language Arts

Sharks
Language Arts, taught by Mindee Hedrick, is designed to improve the growth and development
of each student's reading and writing proficiency. A portion of each day is set
aside for Self-Selected Reading, Small Group Instruction, Guiding Reading or Writing,
Grammar or Spelling, and Journals or Read Aloud. Spelling tests are given every
Friday, and the the students are expected to read for 15 minutes Monday - Thursday (a
signed log is due on Fridays). In addition, 3 one-page journals are due every three
weeks.

Mathematics |

Glenn
Gurley teaches mathematics. Students are presently learning about geometry.
Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday, check agendas and homework section of
this site for specific assignments. Students need graph paper for some
assignments. Mr. Gurley has included these versions: one
page, coordinate plane, single
blue, single black, single green, multi-black,
multi-green, whole-sheet,
and six per page. Graph Paper Printer for
Windows can be used to print graph paper. Students can visit the Sharks Team's Web Links for additional help and practice with
concepts that are introduced. Students:

Science |

Mrs. Matzke teaches
science. The theme this year is changes in nature. Students:
- studied the scientific method and created science projects
for the Shark's Science Fair.
- created mousetrap cars to apply
principles learned in their study of force and motion.
- solved scenarios using David
Drew's book, The Cat on the Chimney - solving problems using technology.

Social Studies |

Mrs.
Matzke is the social studies teacher for the Shark's team. This year we will be
studying North Carolina history. We will have an on-going class project called a
Never-Ending Story. Students:
