Position: 3rd Grade Teacher |
It is difficult to select the most important highlights in my teaching career. Each year has so many new and interesting events, but I think the best part has been the children. No class has been exactly alike. Each year there have been challenges and rewards. Each day is different.
| I have spent most of my school career teaching Math. I have taught many levels and have loved every aspect of the different levels. Seeing the children finally grasping a concept gives me a very satisfying feeling. |

I try to use technology as much as I can. I use my AVerkey to present lessons. I have found that if I present My computer lesson in the classroom before we go to the lab, my students pay more attention and are better prepared to work on their own. I also use it to do whole group lessons that I then expect the children to carry out on our classroom computers.
This past year I used the computer to practice proofreading skills. For my poor writers, I typed in their first drafts and allowed them to revise and edit in a word processing program.
We used HyperStudio to make presentations both in Social Studies and Math.
I also used several of the software programs as aids in assessing the students knowledge in required areas.

I am most interested in learning how to set up and effectively use work stations in my classroom. I want my students to be making the most of their time AND I want them to be self-sufficient. Also, although I have had web page training, I did not put it into practice. I would like to set up a web page for my class (possibly for my grade level)

My students have access to three computers in the classroom, and we have a computer lab. Their are computers in the Media Center, but they always seem to be in use by upper classroom. We have my different software programs (see Cindy for the list.) Although I am very careful about using the Internet, we have taken part in online projects.

One goal I have set for my self is to get my AGE certification (one course to go). Another goal (probably the most important) is to survive next year when I teach in a self-contained classroom. It will mean teaching Reading - we are starting a new series - after the introductory workshop, I am scared stiff.

I also want
to stop taking work home with me. No matter how hard I try, by November
I am always bringing something home.

I took five AG courses this past year and tried a lot of the things with my entire class. No matter what the level of the children, they all profited from the experience.

Down time is very rare, but I enjoy sewing and reading. During the past year my sewing has varied from flags for the high school marching band to prom gowns.

I love to travel and have been lucky enough to visit many places on the East Coast. Now my husband and I are no longer tied down with our five children, we are discovering the world west of the Mississippi river. To date, I think New Orleans has been the most interesting place. The people were very friendly and the sites were very different from the times I had seen before. The plantations were beautiful.
