GOAL
OF THE WEEK: Finishing Your Projects
Center
1 - Science Lab/Life Lab (group/individual)
In
this workstation you will have an opportunity to either explore
in our wonderful garden or to work on your Life Lab project. If
you are going to the garden (Tuesday & Wednesday), go downstairs
and meet in the Science Lab. If you are working on the Life Lab
project (Thursday & Friday), get the basket with instructions
and materials for this activity. Whatever you missed out on this
week you will get to do next week.
Center
2 - Finishing Up - (group)
Begin
this activity by sitting down as a group and planning your presentation.
Be sure that each member of your group has a copy of your presentation
schedule. Keep your schedule in the "Project" section of your notebook.
After you have completed your schedules, use the remaining time
to practice your play. Remember, it must be at least five minutes
long. It must also teach several things about your tribe.
Center
3 - HyperStudio Project Final (group & individual)
The
time has come to complete work on your Tribe/Empire stack. Go to
Rabbit and select Tribes from under the apple. Then, click on your
group's region. You will find a table of contents. Click on one
of the key words, and begin working on a card. Remember, cards should
have text, sound, and graphics. You may wish to have some of your
group members working on other parts of the project at this time.
Be sure to put autobiographies into your stack, if they are completed.
Also, be sure to put in all work you have done in the SCOUT Center.

4-Seeds of Change (group & individual)
You
are about to begin a new and exciting book which will help you learn
how the world changed after 1492. Begin by reading pages 2-13 of
Seeds of Change. Take turns with your group reading out loud, and
be sure to read ALL parts of every page. When you are finished,
have each member of your group write five questions and answers
about this first chapter. Finally, complete the activity on page
12, if you have time.

5 - If I Were a Tree (individual)
Imagine
how different life would be if you were a tree. Instead of having
a time line, you would have a tree cookie. Go to the SCOUT Center,
and create a HyperStudio tree cookie of your life. Your tree cookie
should include one ring for each year of your life. In years where
there was a lot of growth, make thicker rings. Then, label the rings
with different ages and events. If you have time, create buttons
with sound, animation, etc. BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR STACK ON YOUR DISK.
Save it as "________'s Tree Cookie."
Center
6 - Cool Keyboarding/Geography (individual and pairs)
Begin
this activity by splitting up into pairs. Have one pair go to Piglet
and Little Roo and work on Keyboarding. Have the other pair complete
the geography activity.
Keyboarding
- Have the pair select MicroType from the Apple Menu. Next, press
Return twice. Select Open from under the File menu, and select your
name. Use your class number as your password. Then go to the Lessons
menu, and select the lesson you you were working on last week. Work
through as many lessons as possible, and save when you are finished.
Geography
- Have each person get an atlas and a set of questions. Using your
atlas, work together or separately to answer all questions on the
questionnaires.
Center
7 - Hidden Colors (pairs)
It
would be great if we could get a leaf to talk and tell us all about
itself. Well, here is the next best thing. Carefully read the instructions
in the folder for this workstation. Then, carry out the experiment.
After you have completed the experiment, repeat it using yellow
or red leaves. What differences did you notice?
Center
8 - Projects, Timelines, Video. (individual)
Please
carefully use this time to practice and tape videos, complete timelines,
work on presentations, decide on recipes, and do anything else needed
to perfect your presentation. Remember, presentations begin next
week. Owl and Pooh are available for your use.
After
each center be sure to:
-
Fill out your Center Evaluation.
-
Turn in all work.
-
Carefully organize your Center Basket.
-
Clean up everything.
